Fleming Well Pleased With Lincoln Results ResultsAttendance Attendance Only 9 Pet and Handle 5 Pet From 1946 Meet MeetWASHINGTON WASHINGTON PARK Homewood HI j June 19 Edward J Fleming president of the Lincoln Fields Racing Association to ¬ day expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the local meeting was patronized and the support given to it by horsemen The attendance during the 30 days of sport was approximately 9 per cent below that of last year when the meeting was concluded at Hawthorne Most pleasing however was the mutuel handle which was less than 5 per cent below last seasons figures figuresThe The reason for some if not all the de ¬ crease in attendance was the fact that cold and threatening weather plagued the course on three Saturdays of the meeting meetingHad Had it not been for the bad breaks in the weather I sincerely believe we would have exceeded last seasons figures Flem ¬ ing said Our meeting once again proves that racing is more popular than ever and is in a healthy state This was Flemings initial season as active head of the host organization since it was purchased from the American Turf Association early in 1947 1947Stakes Stakes events run during the meeting were well patronized by horsemen Eternal Reward showed his first indications of re ¬ gaining his best form in the 10000 Crete Handicap The 10000 Joliet Stakes re ¬ sulted in one of the most stirring finishes of the meeting when Ky Colonel and Olympia engaged in a deadheat for first money They also registered a new track record for five furlongs running the dis ¬ tance in 5Vs This figure was later equalled by another promising twoyear old Ol Skipper SkipperThe The third stakes offering of the meeting the 10000 Steger Handicap found the Woolford Farms Delegate flashing bis best speed to win Robert McHvains Billings proved himself a threeyearold of quality the following weekend by capturing thi 25000 Peabody Memorial Eternal Re ¬ ward won his second stake of the meeting by annexing the 10000 Lincoln Handicap and the Miss America a 10000 added event for twoyearold fillies was won by Miss Sal K The latter event was the only new stake event on the schedule It drew ft likely field of lassies and undoubtedly will become one of the fixtures on future Lin ¬ coln Fields program
