SOCIAL OUTCAST— Worked five furlongs in 1 :OOVs yesterday at Belmont Park. Cascanuez and Jet Pilot King Philip Top Weights v. Assign Doubtful Pair 122 for Gansett Middle Distance Test By J. N. LYON Staff Correspondent NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 14— Weights for the 5,000 added, mile and one-sixteenth, King Phillip Handicap, for three-year-olds and older, were released here today by Racing Secretary M. C.Ty" Shea. A representative field of 21 middle distance stars were weighted for the nineteenth running of the stake which is to be contested on Saturday, June 18. Equally weighted at 122 pounds, and heading the imposing list of nominees, were the Charfran Stables Cascanuez and Maine Chance Farms Jet Action. Wheatley Stables Full Flight followed directly behind the top pair with an impost of 120 pounds which proved to be just two more than Irving Gushens Soldier Son had been assigned. From the top quartet the assignments drop to the 116 pounds that Brown Booter, coupled with Cascanuez as the Charfran Stable entry, will lift, to the low impost of 105 that Max Kahlbaums Black Coffee will be asked to pack. Cascanuez, currently in Chicago, has not been officially declared from the event but barring a hurried air trip from the Midwest the appearance of this Argentine-bred in the King Phillip would seem impossible. Jet Action is at present at Belmont Park and his status as a possible starter is not known for coupled with the fact that he is not on the grounds he has also been inactive since February at Hialeah Park. During last season the son of Jet Pilot— Busher established himself as one of the top middle distance performers in the nation as evidenced by his victories in the Withers Mile and the Roamer Handicap. Full Flight has been unable to locate the winners circle thus far this year in 12 outings but he has nevertheless been performing against some of the top handicap stars of the nation for he has been racing against Social Outcast, Sea O Erin, Fabulist, Red Hannigan and Subahdar. Soldier Son found his winning stride here last Saturday when he galloped off with the six-furlong Blackstone Valley Handicap while carrying 116 pounds. However, the King Phillip will mark the first time since last fall that the Irish-bred has attempted to go any farthx; than six furlongs, but this should not hamper him for he finished second in the 1954 renewal of this event, and third in the 1953 running.
