TENNESSEE DERBY WINNERS. The Tennessee Derby was first contested in 1884. It was then and for the two succeeding years a dash of a mile arid a half. It was discontinued in 1887, 88 and 89 and resumed in 1890 at the lesser distance of a mile and a furlong, at which it has since remained. It has been many times won by good horses. Joe Cotton, Jim Gray, Robespierre, Vallera, Calhoun, Berclair, Lieber Karl, May Hempstead and Abe Frank were all horses to be proud of. The tabulated history of the race is as follows: Year. First.
