STEADY RAIN FALLS AT FORT ERIE. Manzano and Snowdrift Come Out of the Steeplechase with Injuries. Buffalo. N. y., August 20. Shortly before the time for the horses to go to the post for the opening race at Fort Krie today, a drizzling rain set in. It soon turned into a sharp shower and for the remainder of the afternoon the rain came flown steadily. The going for the lirst race was fast, hut as the afternoon progressed, it became heavier. The steeplechase furnished the biggst upset of the afternoon, the two choices, Manzano and Snowdrift being beaten off. Both showed speed until the last half mile of the trip when they stopped. After the race it developed that Manzano bad one of the tendons in his off hind leg almost cut in two, while Snowdrift broke down badly during the running. The winner turned up in Tony Hart, which lieat out Ralph Hcese after a hard drive, which lasted all the last sixteenth. George C. Bennett was among the visitors at Fort Krie today. Mr. Bennett came on from Saratoga to look his stable over and returned to the Spa tonight. He contemplates spending the next mouth or six weeks with his family at Shenpshead Bay. Mode Nicol, who purchased the horse Bazil a few days ago, sold him this morning to H. D. Williams of the Pasadena. Statle. ...
