Marimbo closed a big gap and finished with a belated rush. Gold Spray ran a good race and outgamed Annie Berry in the final drive. The latter was knocked back on the turn and came again gamely. Little AVally moved up fast when going to the eighth jump, but was unable to get up to the winner. Russell A. stumbled at the fourth jump and finished with a great stretch run. Botanist, after strenuous early pursuit of Momentum and Fleming, drew out like the winner in the last sixteenth and his rider was finally caught napping by Sir Toddington. Clare Russell was always well up and finished with a fast, but Violated, rush. Fleming set a tremendous pace and appeared all over the winner for five furlongs, then quit badly. McKittredge, a coming crackerjack, really outclassed his solitary opponent and showed suierior speed and tremendous stamina. Commodore Fontaine injudiciously made an effort to accelerate the pace and consequently fell an easy victim to McKittredge in the last half. Restlgouehe ran on the inside in deep going and was given an early respite from following the tremendous price, which enabled him to get up right at the end and nail the tiring leaders in the last stride and is a coming crackerjack. Jim Gaffney suicidally set the early pace and was crowded back into deep going by Fair Play, lost a couple of lengths and came on again and outstayed the latter in a terrilic closing drive, but Knapp did not see Restigouche coining until too late. Fair Play, from a good start, was sent along at top speed and, wresting the lead from the favorite, appeared all over the winner on the last turn, but tired finally after a wonderfully fast and game effort. Beaucoup, badly outpaced in the early stages, finished well. Fultonville showed superior early speed and held on well. Ben Fleet seemed sore and disliked the going. Running Water trailed Frank Gill and Nealon closely to the last turn, where she moved up and by them us if they were anchored and came home practically alone. Nealon, after being reserved under a hard 1 ill 1 in nearest pursuit of -the pacemaker, also Hashed by the latter when called upon on the far turn, but himself readily gave way to Running Water a moment later, then put up a game etfort for second place. Frank Gill was hog-fat and held sway for a mile and a quarter on sufferance only and dropped out when the real racing began. Holscher was outpaced from the start, but finished well and will improve.
