NOTED CALIFORNIA SELLING PLATER DEAD Word comes from Spokane that Royalty one of the most famous racehorses of the northwest died two weeks ago Royalty was the winner of the Butte and Seattle derbys and raced on every track from California to Montana Royalty was foaled In 1S99 and was by the Prince Charlie horse Cava ¬ lier from Empress of Norfolk As a twoyearold he raced in the name of W B Sink and in the course of thirty races at Sacramento and Oakland won five was five times second and five times third As a threeyearold he won the Butte Derby at a mile and a quarter in 210J carrying 112 pounds and the Seattle Derby at the same distance In 208 with 114 up and also won three purses As a four yearold he won the socalled Spokane Derby which was a dash of a mile and an eighth for threeyear olds and over and also won many purses In 1904 he was brought to Chicago and campaigned moder ¬ ately here He won a race at Hawthorne and an ¬ other at Worth and on each occasion was at long odds and heavily but quietly and shrewdly backed to the keenly felt loss of tlie ring Since then his role lias been that of the humble selling plater with some successes many defeats and various owners
