NEAR EORT ERIES FINISH BUT ONE MORE DAY OF AN EXTREMELY SUC ¬ CESSFUL MEETING REMAINS Jockey Powers Stars with Four Winners Royal RoyalOnyx Onyx Runs tho Fastest ThreeQuartcrs ThreeQuartcrsof of the Meeting Buffalo X Y August 28 The big fields start ¬ ing in short scrambles brought about many surprises this afternoon at Fort Erie The attendance again was extra large The most unpleasant incident of the afternoon came with the running of the fourth race t threequarters In which some good horses started including Lawrence P Daley The latter was making his first appearance since his Derby victory on the opening day On previous form the Cook crack seemed to hold his opponents safe and was promptly installed favorite at a short price Lawrence P Daley at the start bolted from an inside position and impeded Superstition causing both to be practically left The mishap eliminated lx th as serious factors in the running allowing Itoynl Onyx and Alencon to fight it out to the finish Superstition gaining third place after a sharp drive in the last furlong The crowd not having seen the mishap at the start gave vent to unjust outcries against Xicol who rode Lawrence P Daley and made It uncomfortable for that rider until he passed into the scales room Aside from the crowds hos ¬ tile attitude toward Xlcol the race was noteworthy for tho unexpected improvement shown br Royal Onyx in running the six furlongs In l12i the fast ¬ est of tho meeting meetingA A form reversal came in the last race whon Lady Esther showed superior speed and never left the result in doubt winning with ridiculous ease from Bitter Hand and Quagga Dr Lee Huffman her recent conqueror failed to finish within striking distance of the winner Fred Slocum the book ¬ maker laboring under n fancied grievance bid Lady Esther up from an entered price of 400 to 1000 but failed to get her herJockey Jockey Powers was again in splendid form pilot Ing fmir of the afternoons winners two seconds and one third Little Minnie at a long price beat a fairly good band of sprinters that started in the fifth race Danzette and Zcola were the other out ¬ siders to score Jockey Koss on Alencon lodged a claim of foul against Powers after the finish of the fourth race claiming that Powers had struck Alencon across tlm head with his whip while making the stretch turn and forced Alencon back The claim wa not al ¬ lowed lowedHurlew Hurlew OlXeill have disposed of Gladys Louise to A C MeCafferty MeCaffertyStarter Starter Dade departed tonight for Montreal where he will wield the Hag William Snydei first as ¬ sistant to Dade will do the starting here tomorrow tomorrowW W E Phillips before departing for Louisville to ¬ day purchased May Lutz from Fred Cook CookGallaher Gallaher Bros H Dots and G W J Bissell wilt ship their horses to Lexington Ivy and await the opening of the meeting there J Everman M Gold blatt J Fleming and L Jones will send their strings direct to Louisville and rest up G n Marltnan U LatonlaSix H Clark and J Lally will shin to Latonla Six carloads of horses Including those of T C McDowell P Dunne and J Gritlin were sent to Montreal tonight
