FIGURES OF FRENCH RACING FOR 1913. Racing in France gees on all the year round in one form or other, meetings being held at Pan ind in the south late in the year, and trotting races around Paris after the Hat racing season has ended. Tlie statistics for 1913 show a falling off in attendance and in the betting, and at several meetings the pari-inutuel stands where 00 is the minimum were not used. The total gate receipts of the various societies which manage the racing were: Tlie Society for Encouragement of Horse Breeding S9,!00 The Sporting Society 512,000 Steeplechase Society ;i!7,900 Societv for Half-Breeds 143,500 Society of French Sport 140,800 Total ?1,,.14,100 The money staked in the pari-mutuels on the Paris race tracks shows a diminution of ,4S4,103 as compared with 1912, all the societies being affected. The total amount wagered- was 318.740,990 francs, or nearlv 1914.sh3,748,200. The S per cent, collected bv the law yielded, therefore, nearly ,100,-000. which amount was almost ,300,000 less than in 1912, which was a record year. The racing so cieties take half of the sum to expend on prizes and expenses and the state devotes the other half to various public works. M. Edinond Blanc heads the winners in flat racing with 03,727. Baron Edward de Rothschild is second with 51,345, then follow M. de Saint-Alary, S112.0S4; Vicomte dHarcourt, 01,950: Baron Gour-gaud, 01,720, and A. Aumont, ,4!K. No American owner won more than ,00O. In obstacle races, M. James Ilennessy leads with 41,850, then come M. Veil-Picard. 3S,3U: M. Descazeaux. 9,952; Louis Pratt, 2,291, and M. Fischoff. 2,SS3. ONeill heads the winning jockeys with 102 races, rollowed by J. Keiff, 91; Stern. 74, and J. Childs and Garner, 05 each. Among the jumpers. Parfre-ment leads with S7. Alex Carter has 71, Head, 02, V.
