BUFFALO TURFMAN HAS LARGE STABLE W F Poison Former Owner of Billy Kelly Will Campaign Biggest String He Ever Owned LOUISVILLE Ky April 10 W F Poison the Buffalo N Y horseman will during the forth ¬ coming Kentucky season campaign the most ex ¬ tensive stable lie has raced under his colors since he first embarked in racing four or five years ago When he started as an owner Mr Poison had the benefit of the services of that capable colored trainer Will Perkins and his instant suc ¬ cess was in a large measure due to the foresight and good judgment of that trainer Last summer owner and trainer parted company and since then the Poison horses have been in the care of John Hogan who also achieved good results with the stables horses he raced at New Orleans last win ¬ ter terThe The main division of the establishment is now quartered at Churchill Downs in Hogans care and in a short time the horses will be transferred to Lexington to join Uie division of the stable that raced at Havana under the care of Cecil Howard HowardThe The local division embraces fifteen head in ¬ cluding Buford which won a number of races in the best company at Xew Orleans John Jr Basil War Tax Night Owl and Vulcanite which is the stables candidate for the Kentucky Derby There are also eight highlyregarded twoyearolds among the more promising being Peace Pennant a bay colt by McGee Maltha therefore a half brother to War Pennant Pyx a brown colt by Pataud Okitau and Purl a black colt by Mag ¬ neto Continue ContinueWar War Pennants brother has shown Tip remarkably well in his preliminary trials and is considered the speediest of all the youngsters He and the other two named above have been nominated to the dif ¬ ferent juvenile stakes to be run in Kentucky this spring springVulcanite Vulcanite the colt which Mr Poison hopes to be able to start in the Derby is by Vulcain Single Shot and is still in the maiden class He is a big rangy chestnut and has shown to advantage in his training for the big race raceThe The horses now at Lexington were campaigned at Havana by Cecil Howard and were all winners at that meeting The list includes Dimitri Bac Yenghee Dragon Rock Exempted First Ballot and Lamp Post Cecil Howard has been engaged to ride for the stable this spring springMr Mr Poison was practically unknown upon the Kentucky tracks until he acquired Billy Kelly as a yearling from Rome Respess for the sum of 1500 and developed him into such a highclass racer that he subsequently sold the gelding to Com ¬ mander J 1C L Ross for the large sum of 27500 Prior to selling Billy Kelly owner Poison had won with him in Kentucky two putso races the Bash ford Manor and Idle Hour Stakes and several bitf events in the east all of which netted him 19800 While Mr Poison is not rash enough to believe that iie possesses as good a twoyearold as Billy Kelly turned out to be he nevertheless is of the opinion that he has one or two that may eventually turn out to be somewhat above the ordinary Mr Poison was at Churchill Downs a few days ago looking over his horses and was well satisfied with their appearance He has returned to his home in Buffalo but will be in Lexington iu time for the opening day of the season
