GREAT RACING AT JAMAICA Blazes Triumphs Over Extermina ¬ tor in Excelsior Handicap Kancocas Stable Pair KaiSang and Little Chief First and Sec ¬ ond in Colorado Stakes NEW YORK N Y May 14 Ideal weather anil a banner crowd marked the running of the Saturday program at Jamaica With the possible exception of the Kentucky Derby day program todays offering was decidedly the most attractive program of racing that has been staged in tlie current calendar year The track was muddy but fortunately mud runners par excellence made up the card and whatever withdrawals there were did not detract from the racing which was of the highest caliber and was enjoyed immensely by the big crowd present presentThe The Excelsior Handicap because of its monetary value its long established liistory and the high class and fame of its contestants enjoyed the headline position on the program but the Colorado Stakes ran a close second in popular appraisal appraisalThe The result of the Excelsior was a decided sur ¬ prise 1 S Cosdens Blazes being returned the winner with W S Kilmers Exterminator finishing second a length behind the tiring victor and J E Wideners Naturalist the winner of the race in 1919 accounting for third money Six lengths sep ¬ arated the second and third horses Mad Hatter rOn AVatch Cirrus and Dr Clark followed and fin ¬ ished in the order named Ted Rice rode the winner winnerStarter Starter Cassidy kept the field at the post six minutes while Mad Hatter and On Watcli engaged in a kicking duel but finally sent the field away In perfect alignment Naturalist Blazes and Dr Clark won out in the dash for position at the first turn and were followed in the back stretch closest by On Watch and Exterminator The field pre ¬ served approximately the same relative positions in the run through the rear stretch with the ex ¬ ception of the moving up of On Watch on the out Hide HideAt At the half Dr Clark tired but Naturalist was still leading by a length and Rice made a move to get near the inside rail with Blazes He was blocked in the attempt by Turner astride Natural ¬ ist but came again on the outside raced the tiring pacemaker into defeat in a drive through the stretch and had enough in reserve to ward off the determined challenge of Exterminator al ¬ though the gallant McGee gelding slowly was cut ¬ ting down his advantage at every stride Natur ¬ alist tiring badly finished threequarters of a length in advance of Mad Hatter which made up ground after being forced back in the early running runningLORD LORD BALTIMORE MEETS DEFEAT DEFEATThe The Cosden colors also figured prominently in the fiftli renewal of the Colorado Stakes but were unsuccessful S C Hildreth saddled the first and second horses and Lord Baltimore a double stake winner in Maryland and a previously unbeaten per ¬ former which represented Mr Cosden finished be ¬ hind KaiSang and Little Chief the Rancocas Stable representatives Little Chief got to the front first but his stable mate soon took the lead from him and won with little trouble Sande rode him Little Chief was not persevered with after it became ap ¬ parent that his stable mate had the race at his mercy but held tlie tiring Lord Baltimore safe at the finish Lord Baltimore was forced wide on tlie turn but apparently could not have beaten tiin winner with an equal break in the luck The race was worth 4950 to the winner winnerJames James Butlers East View Mooney up accounted for tlie Boulevard Jn the most thrilling finish staged at Jamaica this year East View raced headandhead with St Michael practiclly from the start Mooney taking the outside St Michael weak ¬ ened slightly but hung on gamely and Princess 1andora coming up on tlie inside in the final six ¬ teenth inserted a nose between those of East View and tlie Whitney filly for second money In an ¬ other stride Princess Pandora would have won wonHonors Honors well distributed throughout the after ¬ noon found another new resting place in the run ¬ ning of the California Handicap Kinnoul from the W M Jeffords stable carrying W Kelsay to a hard earned victory from Dream of tlie Valley and Irish Dream Thunderclap made his reappearance in this race after being laid up for a year and a half and finished close up although last in a field of five fiveThere There was an exodus of highclass riders tonight from Jamaica to Pimlico where they will ride in the Preakness Stakes on Monday C Fairbrother who returned from Pimlico today again went back to the Maryland course to ride the Greentree Stables Touch Me Not in the big race Rice will have tlie mount on J K L Ross Star Voter F Coltiletti will be astride one of the Whitney color bearers and J Mooney will have the leg on Sunny Jim the Quincy Stable dependency dependencyA A turfman of tlie inquisitive breed hunted up a Chinaman at the course today to learn what Kai Sang might mean after the colt had won the Colo ¬ rado Stakes He was told that interpreted the name meant Pick em up come to life lifeN N S Vail claimed Hasten On from II C Fisher for 1350 Mr Fisher bought tlie gelding last fall from J W McClelland He cost the latter 20000 as a youngster
