Complete Final Lincoln Preparations Beehive of Activity At Stickney Course Horse Colony Will Number 1100 by Monday Arrange Splendid Inaugural Card CardSTICKNEY STICKNEY HI May 14 The racing and administration offices of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club sprang to new activity today as lastminute preparations were be ¬ ing made for the opening of that associa ¬ tions 30day meeting at Hawthorne begin ¬ ning Monday While maintenance crews were putting the popular West Side plant Into order for the reception of patrons the racing department was duly registering the hundreds of thoroughbreds which are to disport themselves during the season which runs through June 19 19Horses Horses were arriving here hourly today and by Monday morning it was estimated that upward of 1100 thoroughbreds would be on hand for what promises to be the finest sport the Lincoln Fields organiza ¬ tion has been in a position to offer in some years Some 900 of these runners will be quartered in the stable areas at Hawthorne and nearby Sportsmans Park while the overflow will be provided for at Washing ¬ ton Park whose facilities have been thrown open for the accommodation of horsemen horsemenA A lively interest is manifest in Mondays opening which sets in motion Chicagos major track season and for the occasion a splendid program has been arranged The feature of the first card will be the Grand Crossing Handicap a sixfurlong sprint for threeyearolds and upward and it is ex ¬ pected to bring into competition a number of horses who five days later on the first Saturday of the meeting will be clashing in the 5000 Crete Handicap at the same distance distanceSecondary Secondary Offerings on Initial Program ProgramNominations Nominations for the Crete Handicap the first of six 5000 stakes to be run here this meeting closed early this month while entries for the Grand Crossing were being accepted today both here in Chicago and at Louisville where some of the prospective starters are awaiting shipment to Haw ¬ thorne thorneTwo Two races besides the Grand Crossing Handicap also should appeal to opening day patrons They are the Oak Park and Harvey Purses The Oak Park is a test of a mile and seventy yards for fouryearolds and upward and the Harvey is a condition affair at six and a half furlongs for three yearolds In all there will be eight races just as there will be every other day of the meeting meetingSome Some of the Crete Handicap eligibles who may be found among the contestants in Mondays headliner are Woolford Farms Signator and Pig Tails Brownell Combs Miss Dogwood Galbreath and Dienst Best Seller John M Hutchins Woof Woof A C Ernsts Alohort Mrs Emil Denemarks Last Gold and Mrs A M Creechs Valdina Groom GroomThe The high standard of Mondays racing will be maintained throughout the meeting for the Lincoln Fields program embraces daily features designed to keep the best thoroughbreds before the public Stakes are carded for each of the Saturdays and holidays and there are several dozen overnight handicaps and condition affairs billed for the entertainment of the most exacting fans
