j i g s f . GOSSIP Of THE TURF. Tom Ryan, who has a big barn full of 0,000 thoroughbreds like The Roman and Dunois at the Fair Grounds, states bat ho hamt had a ck horse in his stablo since he arrived here from MemphiB in the spring. "My horses have always done well in St. Louis, and this Is one of the best tracks in the country to race over," declared Mr. Ryan Wednesday. "I campaigned a stable headed by Free Advice and Nick with a lot of success at the Fair Grounds three years ago. This season I have won my share of the races, considering the few horses I have been racing. With a view of racing them on the metropolitan circuit in the fall. I have let The Roman and Dunois take things easy this summer. The Roman is entered in all the big handicaps to be run next fall on the New York tracks. Dunois had a hard campaign all last season, and I kept him going all winter at Ban Francisco, never letting up on him.until after he won the Montgomery Handicap at Memphis this spring." St. Louis Republic. Etholbert is in splendid form at the present time, and is fit to give battle to any thoroughbred of Mb age in the world. He will be started in a race at Saratoga, as his owner, Perry Belmont, is about to return from Europe and has engaged quarters at one of the hotels at Saratoga. Mr. Belmont is anxious to see Ethelbert race, which is not at all surprising, as the colt has improved marvelously since spring. Ethelbert is also booked to start in the Sea Gate Stakes, at a mile and a quarter, at the close of the Brighton meeting.
