Hesper was easily the best and was drawing away at the end, but OConnor had to ride him hard to get to the front in the stretch Tartar showed a lot of speed today and for a time appeared likely to win, but tired badly in the last sixteenth. Shaws riding of Elfin Conig was not brilliant, but he would have been second in the next stride. Elsie Barnes ran a splendid race. She was off well but was interfered with and knocked back to seventh place, and closed strongly from the head of th« stretch home and would have been a contender but for the interference. Uncle Bill and Candia both showed early speed but tired. Hesper, entered to be sold for *500, was bid up to ,000 by the owner of Tartar and bought in. Miss Hanover was given an easy race.
