FROND IN FORM The racing at Hawthorne yesterday was a da cided improvement over that of the day before quite a number of good class horses performing in the various races The track was not quite at its best but it was rather fast the cool weather keeping the thoronhgbreds from run ¬ ning to their best notch notchThe The feature event of the day was a free handi ¬ cap for twoyearolds at six furlongs with 700 added The winner proved to be Fat Dunnes good gelding J Y Kirby which when called upon at the last eighth moved up to his opponents and passed them rather handily Off to a good start Janbert Sashed to the front opening a gap of two lengths when going down the backstretch with Miracle II a nose in front of J V Kirby which was nearly two lengths in the lead of Bosewar Janbert con ¬ tinued in the van by about the same margin as the final turn was reached with little change in the other positions except that Bosewar had moved up and joined J V Eirby and Miracle II When straightened woll for home the quartet were on pretty lavon terms but J V Kirby on the outside appeared to be running the easiest Jaubert was the first to crack as the last eighth post was reached He was soon followed by the Bradhy youngster and the race then resolved itself into a tilt between Bosewar and the Dunne gelding When a sixteenth out Wink field worked his mount trradnally to the front J Y Kiiby finally passing over the line a length in the lead Bosewar beat the spent Janbert a length for eecond place while the Scoggan colt finished about the eame dietance in front of Miracle II The race frcm tht last eighth post was productive of great enthusiasm and was by far the best ccnteet cf the day dayThe The steeplechase resulted in one of the best ercEBcoBctrj affaire of the year the race being sharply contested between three of the field up to the last jump Frond was in excellent fet ¬ tle and fencing cleanly showed the way for the entire jcurney Donation cloetd on her after taking the last jump but while it appeared a close ctiuggle all the way dcwn the stretch Frond hsd always the most speed of the pair and won handily by half a length Donation being under a hard drive afttr taking the last jump Crest was third clcsellup to the last jump but tired bedly in the run in Dick Fur her had a itrenuous time of it in getting his lego over the varicus jumps This was prob ¬ ably due to Clays timidity who was afraid to let the old icgne take them in his full stride strideThe The Conqueror II picked up a little easy aaoney for Ben Vincent in the second race beating Ben Battle in a slow gallop by four and a half lengths Boney Boy closely attended by by Ben Battle eet the pace to the head of the stretch where the latter had enough The Con ¬ queror II moving up into the vacated position Along about the last eighth peat the son of Sir Dixon grsbbed and passed him with consum ¬ mate ease gradually increasing the distance between them as the line was reached Beauty Book which finished third a length and a half back of Ben Battle ran a fair race holding a gocd rciition until a furlong out where aha began to tire The others were always outrun Biz Shooter Borne Bespass good Sir Dixon eolt bad no trouble whatever in prevailing over his field in the fourth race movirg away from then as if they were tied in the last sixteenth Knight never asked him to extend himself until well straightened away for home allow ¬ ing him to gallop along within easy call until the last quarter bad been reached Amur and Argregor heads apart ware fighting it put at thtlait eighth poet when Knight brought Six Shooter along with a rush passing them with ease and winning in a canter by six lengths Argregor shook off Amur when a sixteenth out and got second place handily by two lengths from Flying Torpedo which came with a be ¬ lated rush at the end Amur all out to the last ounce staggered in fourth fourthHargis Hargis should have won the first race but Winkfield appeared to loaf a little in tha clos ¬ ing strides and Parnassus headed him out on the post Lapidus and Hargis ran head and head to the last eighth where the former quit and fell back It appeared very much as if Hargis had everything his own way in the last eighth but Birkenrutb brought Parnassus up with a rush along in here and in a dingdong finish shot his head over the line first to the surprise of many of Hargis backers Lapidus finished a poor third six lengths away Bed Hook supposed to be the contender was never a factor being badly outrun all the way Ben gaw showed early speed butjretired when about an eighth out outThe The last race of the day went to Gawaine which ran a much better race than on the oc ¬ casion of his last previous attempt Bsnctr took the gelding into the lead and kept him there to the end although hard driven to stall off the determined rush of Nettie Begent in the closing strides Odnor which ran third did not run up to his recent good form formSecretary Secretary Clark is of the opinion the starters for the Superior Stakes tomorrow will be Ad ¬ vance Guard 126 Sidney Lucas 121 Pink Coat 121 Frank Thompson 110 Hernando 103 Star Chamber 100 Six Shooter 94 Fox Bard 91 Our Nellie 90 Tammany Chief 90 and Ben Chance 90
