THE SARATOGA MEETING Bacing begins at Saratoga next Monday and there is no doubt that the famous old course is to be the scene of a meeting that will by far ex ¬ cel all that have been held there in many years past Under date of July SO a letter from there to an eastern exchange says saysA A visit to the old Saratoga race course today was most interesting In preparation for the meeting which begins here on Monday there was an air of bustle about the grounds that foreshadowed success successF F T Clarke of Sheepshead Bay has been on the grounds for the last two weeks and under his direction the place has been beautified and rearranged rearrangedThere There is a lawn of grass in front of the grand ¬ stand instead of the old brick bed that made the racegoers feel footsore The club house has been elaborately refitted and placed at an angle where the gentlemen who now control the des ¬ tinies of the course can have a perfect and un ¬ interrupted view of the races racesA A fleldstand baa been built near the pavilion and at 50 cents per bead the populace can see as much of a race as their wealthier friends in the grandstand Boxes have been arranged for the members of the Saratoga Polo Club ou tha grandstand grandstandThe The steeplechase course has been rearranged and is now In perfect rhape The inner rails of the track have been rebuilt and are now a trifle higher with a alight slant to the inaido which will do much to avoid accidents on the turns turnsThe The interest that tha new management is taking In tha course la emphasized by the build ¬ ing of new private atables by several of tha thaiost iost prominent turfmen August Belmont baa rected a stable with twentyfour stalls F B Hitchcock baa one Dear completion that will have room for twenty racers and Messrs Ban ford Sons hava one with thirty stalls All OOXTDTCKD OK UOOXD FAQB THE SARATOGA MEETING Continued from First Page these are on the backstretch and barring the Hitchcock stable are ready for occupancy J E Madden has purchased stableroom on the backstretch of sufficient size to accomodnto the lengthy string that races in his colors colorsSuperintendent Superintendent W Puckett has the track in perfect shape and the trainers think it was never safer or faster There are a large num bar of horses now at tho course than were ever seen there before The main track and Horse Haven aro all crowded and with the new arriv ¬ als that are expected between now and opening day tho management will be put to their wits ends to supply the necessary accommodations accommodationsThe The J F Schorr string are here in strength Brown Dick also has a string at the track G W Poole now at Chicago has made appli ¬ cation for stable room for a large string and will arrive in a day or two twoSecretary Secretary H D Mclntyre arrived last night nightSeveral Several of the racers at the track have been ailing a bit Tho trouble has not been confined to any particular lot and it is thought not to be of a serious nature natureA A few racers just from tho Long Island tracks have developed a slight coughing and with some of the stringa it is a mouth disease that is the trouble The W P Burch lot has bean slightly affected with the last named trouble but the trainer looks upon it as something that will pass over in a little time timeThe The track during the galloping hours this morning was muddy It has been raining for a couple of days and nothing in the way of speed work was attempted There were a number of horses shown however and as I did not hear the sound of a cough it was hard to believe that j there was any serious trouble in store for the racers that are to supply the sport for the com ¬ ing meeting meetingPeter Peter Wimmer showed Imp off to jogging exercise The great mare looks in splendid shape She turned a mile and a furlong a day or two ago when the track was good in 156 and the trainer has great hopes for her herT T J Healeys The Parader did a mile and a furlong in 2031 The trainer has boon in no hurry with him since being here and the son of Longstreet Pretense IB ready for what is to come There are no sick horses in the string stringJ J W Rogers has Nasturtium going again and while the track was in good shape ho was allowed a half mile breather in 59 seconds secondsThe The W O Scully lot were shown to easy ex excise Glennellie has been going particularly well since being here and has shown some speed in her work Leonora Loriog has been troubled a bit with that disease but the trainer expects her to round to all right rightJames James McLaughlin showed First Whip off to some breezing work The stables other racers were on the easy side
