ST. MABCOS AGAIN. After the large crowd that witnessed the , races on Labor Day at Harlem it was naturally supposed there would be ,a marked falling off in the attendance yesterday but it waB nowhere , near as large as expected,, an unusually good gathering being present. There was no stake i race offered but the card of seven races was a well balanced one and Borne close finishes i bobbed up during the afternoon. The most pretentious race of the day was the i sixth, a six furlongs scramble for two-year-olds. Of the six babies that started that clever filly, Nellie Waddell, proved to be the best, going into the lead soon after flag dip and remaining . there to the end. She led by two lengths all the way and won by the Bame margin. When i coming down the last eighth she was inclined to loaf, but Sullivan shook her up and she came away from the apparently fast closing McChesuey with ease. The latter was second all the way and came with a resolute rush in 1 the final eighth, but he had no chance to overtake the winner and had to be content with second place. J. V. Kirby finished third a length 1 back of McChesney and ran a good race. Henry Zitt showed quite a turn of speed to the 1 final quarter. After Beruatos good race with Argregor at " Hawthorne last week it seemed that he held the fifth race, a dash of one mile and one hundred . yards in fee simple. He was made a 11 to 1 10 Bhot in the betting, but ran a disappointing CONTINUED ON BBOOND1FJL.QB, 8T. MARCOS AGAIN. Continued from First Paga. race, being beaten off nine and a half lengths at the finish. Knnja went into the lead soon after the start and held it np to the ran in, where she was joined by Cluster. The two had a short argument about the eighth post, but, soaring the wire, Cluster drew away without much trouble, winning by a half length, while Knnja beat If acGyle two for second place. The talent pinned its faith to Golden Glitter in the first race, a five furlongs dash for two-year-old fillies, but the filly was just a head short at the finish, Hoodwink, well backed at to 1, beating her by that margin. Coacoa finished third, two lengths back. Dodia S. was fourth and ran as if short. Lyror Bell had no trouble in scoring in tha second race, a dash of six and a half furlongs, as after a long delay at the post she was let off in front with a flying start of two and a half lengths and remained easily in front to the end, winning as her rider pleased by three lengths Emma C. L. was second four in front of Patroon. The last named ran in improved form. School for Scandal showed the most speed in the third race, holding the lead for the entire Journey and winning nearly all out by a half length from Mondoro, who beat Synia one for second place. St. Marcos was the best in the fourth race, a dash of one mile for three-year-olds, coming with a well-timed rush in the last furlong and winning easily from the spent Lady Strathmore by two lengths, the latter beating Denman Thompson one length for second place. Coburn hustled Lady Strathmore into the lead as the half mile post was neared and held her there by a snug margin up to a furlong out, where she began to falter, and the winner had no trouble in picking her up and beating her out. Denman Thompson closed fast in the last hundred yards, but could not quite reach the exhausted Lady Strathmore. It appeared very much when at the eighth post that Precursor was going to win the last race of the day a dash of one and an eighth miles, but he began to tire in the last sixteenth and then fell away, beaten. Here Kentucky Baba and Dagmar passed him easily, the former winning by one length, while Dagmar beat Zac-atoso two for second place. Hub Prather came fast at the finish after making up some ground ;in the final quarter.
