Joa-epha immediately assumed command and galloped along in front of the field under a stiff pull throughout and ran like a crack-a-jack. Octoroon finished strongly through the last furlong. Emma A. M. showed speed and did well in disposing of Musidora and Dunwell, both of whiok quit badly in the stretch. Destitute was going well at the end on her own courage. Bowen ran a remarkably game race and is a fairly good horse. He was outrun in the first half and appeared to ba baaten when three furlongs from the finish but suddenly closed up at the end with a tremendous rush. Satire displayed brilliant speed and hung on well. Barbara Frietchie broke last and made up a lot of ground, was compelled to run wide on the turns and was going strongly at the end. Speadmast received a bad break and suffered from crowding several times. Modrina was probably short. Missionary has very dickey underpinning. She showed much spaed and stood a long drive at the end. PeniuBula waB crowded back at the start and closed a gap on the laadars, but was handled badly and should have "boon second. King Pepper is rounding to and showed a glimpse of his early form. Isias race was a remarkable improvement. Demurrer ran badly. Alard Bcheck wants a longer route. He was hops-lessly outrun in the early part of the race, but was closing up in the stretch. Lucent and Candle were outclassed, but ran well and properly placed will give a good account of themsalvas. Kilogram ran the best race of his career, was carefully nursed to the stretch, where he challenged and wore down Belle of Troys apparently safe and winning lead. The latter was probably a trifle short and will beat this kind back easily. Bedeck was badly messed about and tired from following the terrific early fast pace. Sam Phillips was vary sore and outrun to th half by a sixteenth of a mile, but closed with a rush at the end and pulled up very lama. Musjtte displayed brilliant speed, but the weight stopped her at the distance. She is becoming very good again. Ethics had no chance with the midget oa his back, bat will bear watching.
