Considerable ezcitement occurred in the ring just before the fifth race and was occasioned by some one attempting to get away with a handful of 00 bills belonging to bookmaker Fred Cook. The money was grabbed from the bookmakers cash box at a moment when the cashiers head was turned away. The cashier immediately gave chase to the money snatcher and caught him in the crowd. When the man found himself caught he dropped the money to the ground. The cashier was compelled to turn the man loose to protect the money.
