SIXISHOOTKUS GREAT WESTERS. J. B. Bespess handsome horse Six Shooter won the Great Western Handicap at Washington Park .yesterday. The prize was worth ,870 and the victory one to suit the crowd, as Six Shooter was the heavily backed public favorite. The race was a rood looking one and the best horse won it. Seven horses went to the post, only Searcher being withdrawn. That left two to carry the Hildreth colors, Hermencia and Nitrate. The pair was the early second choice in the betting, thongh displaced by Little Scout as speculation wore along. The dispatch was happy and early with Hunter Baine in front. - Flying Torpedo displaced him at once and around the bend down the stretch and past the stand to the club house turn, Flying Torpedo showed the way, well clear of Little Scout and the Hildreth Tpair. So they ran well into the back9tretch, Vinci--tor trailing and just berore Six Shooter. Nearing the half mile post a mile out Little Scout was in difficulties and the pace smartened. Vincitor showed his lack of condition here and fell away hopelessly beaten. Flying Torpedo was still in front around the bend to the straight, with Nitrate nearly two lengths away and just clear of Hunter Saine and Hermencia. Six Shooter was coming through on the outside. There was some bumping at the head of the stretch, Six Shooter being the sufferer. The favorite rallied, though, and, swinging Iwide, got to his horses at the eighth pole. Then he headed them, and, drawing away, won easily by nearly three lengthe. Flying Torpedo second, a length before Nitrate. Will Shelly led by a comfortable mar-sin up to the last eighth, where he fell away beaten, and Captain Arnold shot into the lead. The latter appeared the winner a sixteenth out, but along here Lemco came with a rush and, under strong Tiding, beat him out by a half length going away. .Flash of Lightning finished an indifferent third. Reckoner, a despised outsider, finished strongly .and was beaten only a head for third place. Vincennes proved to be the best in the second Tace, but he had to be driven out to the limit in the last eighth to stall off Eavenburys splendid bid at the end, winning in an exciting drive by a meek. Cherished finished third two lengths back. Bavensbury showed much improvement over his other races and bears watching from now on. Cherished, off badly, closed up much ground in the final quarter and was running very fast in the closing strides. She was badly ridden. Ben Chance, which finished fourth, a neck behind Cheriihed, is at his best justnow and will bear watching when next he runs. Lou Hazel and Hot showed well for seven furlongs: G. W. W. showed early speed. He ran nowhere near his best form, but hia effort was an improvement over his last start. Bragg ran a splendid race in the fourth event, beating Glen Water in easy fashion by two lengths, with the latter a length before Federal.. Bragg was easily outrun the first quarter, but down the stretch he closed up fast and was going away easily at the end. Glen Water, as usual, showed much speed hat tired fast when challenged by Bragg in the last sixteenth. Federal ran a good race but simply could not concede the weight. Andy Williams was thoroughly beaten in the last eighth. In a rousing finish between South Trimble and Waswift in the last sixteenth of the fifth race the former outstayed the latter, winning by a neck, with Prowl a very poor third. South Trimble was badly outrun for the first half mile, but closed up ground fast down the last quarter. Waswift showed much speed and stood a long, hard last-eighth drive. Prowl finished third simply because Father Wentker tired to almost a walk in the closing strides. Gonfalon ran far below his best form and showed scant speed. Inspector Shea was always beaten off. Jack Eattlin won the last race easily by two and a half lengths from Wainamoinen, which beat Zibia three for second place. Elsie L. ran a dull race, but had hardly any chance from where she got off. Wainamoinen tired perceptibly when called upon in the last eighth.
