JLOCAIi TURF GOSSIP. John A. Drake is evidently bent on having one of the most powerful stables in the country. Yesterday he purchased from P. Dunne the two-year-olds, Savable and Allan, the price not being stated. Savable ran yesterday in the Maywood Stakes and, by a combination of accidents and bad racing luck, was only able to finish third, being beaten by his stable mate, Early, and Gallant Smith. That Savable should have won and was the best horse in the race is the prevailing opinion of the majority of horsemen. That the colt is destined for an illustrious career under the watchful care of Enoch Wishard there can be no doubt. Jockey Buchanan, who rode Topsoil in the fifth race, was fined 0 by the starter for disobedience at the post. Jockey Mathews was only slightly shaken up by his fall on Compass in the second race and was able to ride Silver Fringe in the fifth.
