LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Paul J. Miles shipped to Brighton Beach yesterday the following horses, Cogswell, Loone, Marie Tryon, and several two-year-olds. Jockey Dominick yesterday paid the 50 fine that Starter Dwyer assessed him on Captain Arnold in the Edgewater Stakes. Dominick will be permitted to ride during the remainder of the meeting for F. Cook, his contract employer, only. Jockey Buchanan stated yesterday that it was very doubtful if he accepted any more mounts at Washington Park. His health has been very poor of late and a rest of a week would prove beneficial to him. OONTIHUED ON SECOND PAGE, LOCAL TUEF GOSSIP. Continued from First Page. J. A. Drake bid up Vincennes, the winner of the second race, to ,600, at which price A. Simons let him have the horse. This was an advance of 9600 over the entered price. Jockey Coburn was again fined 5 by the starter for disobedience at the post in the first race. Ciales; the winner of the fifth race, was entered to be sold for 00, but was bid up by various persons to ,300 and finally secured by Charles Ellison with an advance bid of . P. J. Gorman, his owner, ceased bidding when ,200 was reached, but when Ellison offered him the horse back at the figure he purchased Ciales for, Mr. Gorman readily accepted. Originally there were seventy-eight horses carded to start, but the rain which fell during the morning hours had the effect of causing owners to scratch out twenty-seven. A. Simons bid up Winter after she had won the closing race to ,500, Mr. Eespess, her owner, retaining her with the customary advance bid. The Hyde Park Stakes, which is carded for decision today, brings together the best horses of the younger division that have raced this year in the west. The winner of the event will have a clear title to the name of champion two-year-old of the west for the year 1902. Should Savable, Dick Welles, Captain Arnold, Early and Sidney C. Love line up to the barrier, the race will be a spirited one from flagfall and the finish worth going a long way to see.
