CAPTAIN BROWNS YEARLINGS. A dispatch of last Friday from Lexington to a Now York exchange says: "Capt. S. S. Brown, tho Pittsburg millionaire, coal king and turfman, will have next season the most extensive racing string ho has ever owned. Tho two-year-old division alone will numbor forty-one head, and ho has engaged Charles Dodson to handle these youngsters, which will be placed in training at once at his now breeding farm near this city, under the special care of his manager, Max Samuelson. "Eight of thoso colts and fillios Captain Brown brod, they being out of race mares that have carried his colors on tho track, while tho other thirty-three hoad have been purchased privately and at public sales. They cost Captain Brown on an avorago of noarly ,000 por hoad, representing an outlay of 5,000. "It is about tho largest string of yoarlings any oastorn owner over had in training in Kentucky, inasmuch as theso youngsters will remain hero until early next spring, when tho pick of them will bo taken east and turned over to trainer Peter mm CONTINUED OK SECOND PAGZ. 51 HIGHLAND PARK. A letter from Detroit to a leading Cincinnati newspaper says: " Tho runners will have their inning at Highland Park next Saturday, when tho fourth meeting of the northern circuit will open. It will continue for thirty days, and will bo followed by a mooting of -similar duration at Windsor, giving two months of racing in and around this vicinity. "Fort Erie will close its gates Wednesday, and nearly 700 horses will be shipped direct to Highland Park from tho Buffalo course. There will be about 1,000 horses in attendance at the meeting, and something like one third of them raced at La-tonia. "Extra stalls aro being built, but many of tho late comers, or those which have no stake engagements,, will have to stablo outside tho track inclos-uro. T. P. Hayes is the latest arrival. Ho brought nineteen from St. Louis and will remain throughout the meeting as he is well represented in tho four stakes which will bo run. "The feature of the opening days program is the Frontier Stake for three-year-olds, which iliisj year takes the place of the Detroit Derby. "The meeting this year comes so late that it was thought best to dispense with tho Derby and instead give a condition race for three-year-olds at one and one-eighth miles. Among the eligibles in the list of entries are : Buccleuth, Hunter Raine-, Flintlock, Tax Man, Red Robe, St. Hera, Silk Cord, Dubious and Circus, all of which have performed well and aro counted upon as starters. "The other stakes which will be contested at tho coming meeting are the Detroit. Stake for two-year-olds at five furlongs, which has fifty-seven entries ; the Oakland Handicap for three-year-olds and upward, ono mile, with seventy-nine entries, and the ! Highland Park Soiling Stake for three-year-olds and upward, which has ninety-two entrio3. "All the indications point to tho most successful mooting of the circuit. Tho Detroit public is hungry for the runners as, notwithstanding tho Blue Ribbon meetings for the light harness horses, which aro annual fixtures here, Detroit takes more kindly to tho bangtails, arid the attendance at Highland Park is made up strictly of local lovers of the sport, and the daily attendance is as large as at Latonia. "A steeplechase course was built last fall and races through tho field" will be featured, and at least two a weak will be contested. "Jake Markloin, Joo Pugh. J. H.Baker, Moso Goldblatt, James Robertson, Robinson and Loach, W. F. Schulto and other owners of prominence will be here. Tho samo corps of officials who are supervising the racing at Ft. Erie will have charge at Highland Park. The judges will be Francis Nelson, John Morrow and Captain J. W. Prince. Mars Cassidy will be tho starter and will use tho no recall system. Walter O. Parmer is secretary and is the moving spirit of the northern circuit meetings." CAPTAIN BROWNS YEARLINGS. Continued from First Page. Wimmer. Those that are not sent east will be trained in the west. "A majority of these yearlings are Futurity candidates, a race Capt. Brown has set his heart on winning with some member of this aggregation. In the list of these royally bred colts and fillies found below are full brothers to Jack Point, Hagerdon and Gonfalon; half brothers to Ben Eder, Daily America, Potentate, Goose Liver, Fairy Dell. Glenwood, Irish Lad, Vulcain, Nantucket, Fidel Youlin and The Last ; half sisters to Monadour and His Lordship, and a sister to McMeekin.
