Hucena was cut off on the first and second turns and badly ridden, but went around the field and, finishing fast, won easily. Ladas showed improvement and speed and fully ran his race. So did Joe Doughty. Branch was cnt off at the second turn and Lyne funked the crowding and pulled him up. He closed up ground fast in the last half. Una Price showed early speed. Ciales broke smartly but was outrun early by The Phoenician, stood a hard drive all through the stretch, swerved at the end and just lasted long enough. The Boer ran in much improved form, finished gamely and was only beaten because Lyne outrode Battiste. The Phoenician was a much improved horse today, showed a fine turn of speed and would have been closer up with a good finisher on him. Bengal was woefully handled and ridden but ran a good race, Sweet Dream was pulled up at the first turn and can do better. Scratched 32503 Assessment, 104; 33786 Quicksilver Sue, 91. Overweights Censor, 2 pounds. Ciales, show, out. The Boer, show, evens. The Phoenician, show, 21 to 1. Bengal, show, 3 to 5.
