THE FUTURITY. It is believed that the Futurity of this year will exceed 0,000 in value and it may even go close to the 0,000 mark. Its original entry of mares was largely in excess of the figures of recent preceding years, which accounts for the increase in value. When Secretary Lawrence devised the conditions of this big race he confidently believed that it would ultimately attain the value of 00,000, but so far its greatest return has been when Potomac won the race and 7,675 in 1890. Commenting on this years prospects Morning Telegraph says : 8 "In Chacornacs year,1899, the lowest value in the history of the event was reached, 0,630. "The number of horses still eligible throws a light on the quality of the two-year-olds in train, ing and brings out forcibly the fact that a real star has yet to show in this division. "There are, of course, a number of horses in the list that havent a chance, and which would have been declared but for the owner overlooking or neglecting the matter of declaration. "A glance at the list of Futurity eligibles at this date shows the Keene stable to be especially strong both in point of numbers and also in the quality of its nominations. "The J. R. and F. P. Keene eligibles include Hurst Park, Injunction, Whitechapel, Dalesman, Duster, Prediction, Sir Launcelot, Tarn OShanter, Palmist and Toboggan, and in the James R. Keene lot are Gimcrack, Higodon, Clarion, Futurita,Biturica, Surbiton, Dazzling and Flying Prince. "Next to the Keene stable James B. Haggin has the largest number of eligibles. though they are far from the Keene lot in point of quality, judged by the form they have shown in public. Sir Voorhies, Miss Dorothy, Star and Garner, Teddy Mack, Amaryllis, Parisienne, Starfish, Lady Sarah and Sir Hugh make up the Haggin list. "August Belmont is represented by Mizzen, which swept the boards in the juvenile events at Morris Park, but afterward was beaten decisively; Fire Eater, Lord of the Vale and Sailmaker. "W. C. Whitney names a quartet of unknown quantities in Miss Hamburg, Golden Girl, Payne and the Meddler Lady Stylites filly. " Whitney and Duryea are represented by theirstar performer, Irish Lad. " S. S. Brown has an interesting trio of eligibles in River Pirate, Blue Ribbon and Scioto, the full sister to the great race mare Imp. "John E. Madden has. Old Lady, Merry Reel, Busy Maid and Dauphin in the list. "Other eligibles of prominent stables are Green Morris Artvis and Gold Van ; the Fleischmann Stables Hurstbourne, Wax Candle, Amorous and Irascible ; Clarence H. Mackays Mexican, Acefull and Skilfull ; J. G. Follansbees Daisy Green ; A. Feather-stones Mesmer, Mary Street and Pebble; F. R. Hitchcocks Sergeant and Castalia; L. V. Bells Kim ; J. A. Drakes Savable ; Diemel and Dwyers Africander; Newton Benningtons Lady Albercraft and Bensonhurst; T. C. McDowells Woodlake, and John Sanfords Canajoharie. "Within the next three weeks the indifferent members of the eligible list will be sifted out and only the cream of the lot will be pointed for the big event. It U, of course, too early to make any prediction as to the actual candidates, but all things indicate that the field will be a large one and will sustain in point of class the previous brilliant history of the race."
