LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. C. E. Mahones two-year-old filly, Vestia, which finished third in the second race yesterday, is a twin sister to Jakko, a winner on the Canadian circuit. Both youngsters are by St. Leonards, which finished second to Boundless in the 0,000 American Derby, Worlds Fair year, out of Mere Hill, and were bred by the Messrs. Eeene. The two horses are the only ones known in recent history of tne American turf to be sporting silk that were similarly related. Jockeys Buchanan and Hoar were fined 5 by the starter for disobedience at the post in the third raco yesterday. Jockey Hoar was permitted to ride out his engagements made prior to -his .suspension Tuesday. Caesar Young, the well-known owner and bookmaker, passed through Chicago yesterday on his return to California. Mr. Young early in the spring made a trip to England and only recently returned. While in New York several days ago he purchased from G. B. Morris the good performer, Water Cure, which he shipped to Chicago. The horse is expected here during the day and will bo trained by Danny Lynch. The following horses, on account of their fractious acting at the post, will be barred from starting until schooled to the barrier, Vestry, Hattie Walker and Courage. Jockey Dean has been released by Tichenor and Co., and jockey Lyne will not again ride for the Drake stable. Jockey Winkfield will be riding at Harlem next week".
