Borough, skilfully ridden and saved for the first two miles, won right on the post through Barrys superior finish. Self Protection is steadily improving, was excessively used early and held on gamely at the end. Rock Storm is very promising and but for inexperience in going through the field would have won, as he made good on the flat, but just failed to get up. Judith Campbell was easily best, led throughout and was only called on in the last furlong, then came away strongly. Charles Elwood finished fast and ran a grand race. Sergeant was crowded at the end and dropped back only to come again with a rush in tho last hundred jards. Sparkle Esher was a contender throughout. Africander, next to the rail and pocketed to the stratch, with clear sailing was fast overhauling the leadors. Tantalus Cup was crowded back at tho start and closed a big gap. Rivor Pirate, away badly and carried very widely on the turn, finished with a tremendous rush. Gimcrack followed the winners fast pace closely for the first half and was going well in hand, but unexpectedly tired in the last quarter and can do better. Won easily ; second the same. Francesco is a crackerjack, patiently waited on Blues to the stretch, where he went to the front like alflash and was easily best at the weights. Herbert, nearly left, but favored by cuppy going, gradually closed an immense gap and finished like a whirlwind. Articulate put up a first-class performance at the weights and stuck to his work in remarkably game fashion at tha endto stand off Advance Guard and Carbuncle, which were closing up very fast. Advance Guard was handicapped by the soft going as against Articulate and Carbuncle, both being particularly favored by it. Blues quit in the last furlong after going a fast mile and will improve. Ethics, nearly left, disliked the track, but ran a great race. Rox-ane was used up by following Blues. Nones is in bad form. Wannakee is much improved, received a lucky start, made the most of the advantage and sustained a high order of speed gamely throughout. Dark Planet finished well and wore Gloriosa down atthe end. The latter ran well and was probably short. Louise Collier was a good filly incompetently ridden. Dr. Saylor tired in the deep going. Mackey Dwyer was beaten early in the race and thereafter suffered from costly interference. He ran like a sulker, probably due to crowding at the start. Nevermore finished strongly. Orloff was nractieally left at the post and closed a big gap. Scratched 34038 Joe Cobb, 110; 33922 John A. Scott, 107; Russell Garth, 102 ; Cavalier, 102 ; 335573 Yardarm, 97; 34017 Eva Russell, 96. The latter apparently held the race safe throughout and was best. Drummond gradually moved up on the extreme outside and was a good horse at the end. Five Nations ran as if short and is in great form evidently. Frank McKee, nearly left, closed and immense gap. Guess Work displayed brilliant speed and held on well.
