LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Rose Tree, which won the Garden City Stakes yesterday, is the first horse in the Corrigan stable to score brackets in a stake for the ex-master of Hawthorne since his return from England. 4 Jockey Ranch complained to the judges after the fifth race that jockey Helgesen, who rode Scarlet Lily, had crowded into his mount on the first turn. Judge Hamilton fined Helgesen 5 and cautioned the rider against future rough riding. C E. Durnell claimed St. Cuthbert, which finished second in the first race.
