Kilogram showed the way and, favored by the dearth of early speed behind him, came away in the last quarter cantering and was much the best. Drummond moved up with amazing speed on the stretch turn and was a strong second. Rossignol, away badly, closed a gap and finished with a rush. Wellesley followed the winner closely for six furlongs, but was tiring in the stretch. Cogswell was going well at the end. Martin Burke ran poorly throughout. Winner B. c, by Laureate La Tosca trained by W. Hayward. Went to post at 2 :40. At post 8 minutes. Start fair. Won in a canter; second driving. Chuctanunda far outclassed his field and is probably the great sprinter of the year. He indulged Ordnung with the lead to the stretch turn, where he forged to the front and was hard held throughout. Maxnic, skillfully handled, waited in behind the pacemakers and moved up fast when called on in the stretch. He ran a high class, game race and is one of the best two-year-olds of the season. Redpath, nearly left, ran kindly under the light weight and closed a tremendous gap, finishing very fast. Ordnung displayed his usual brilliant speed and hung on remarkably well after his heart-breaking effort with the winner for a half. Lord Pepper, which is fast and can win good races, was close up for the first half in spite of the terrific pace. Maud Gonne could not get into serious action early in the game. Numeral and Extinguisher went well. Athelroy was prominent when a furlong out and will do to watch. Scratched 34188 Colonel Bill, 112; 342683Sadducee, 108; 342363 Slipthri ft, 103; 342923Daly, 98 ; 34114 Sweet Tooth, 97. Chnctannnda, show, 1 to 3. Maxnic, show, 8 to 1. Redpath, show, 5 to 1. Cunard, in an effort to place him, ran under a choking pull for the first mile and stole a long and winning lead on the stretch turn. He was best and is steadily improving. Gold Cure was reserved for a final stretch run and made good in brilliant fashion, but Shaw was a little late in making his move and the winner made most of this advantage. Keynote, pocketed and crowded in next to the rail in the stretch, finished fast and gamely and is in fine form. Slipthrift moved up very fast on the stretch tu.n, but fell away unex- pectodly after being apparently secure of second place. Highlander fell away when the real racing commenced. Governor, big and evidently short, cloied a gap and finished strongly. W. R. Condon quit in the stretch and wiil stay better in mud. Tantalus Cup ran a bad race and lacked his recent speed throughout. His race was too bad to be true. Innsbruck was practically left. Scratched 34314 Minotaur, 115; Canajoharie, 105.
