Mur-esca revelled in the heavy going and simply played with the field. Ailyar appeared high in flesh and ran nowhere near to his best form. He tired fast at the end and had to be driven out to the limit to get second place. Huzzah finished strongly after making up ground in the last throe furlongs. Lady Idris showed early speed. Topsoil was much the best at the weights and came away without much of an effort when turning into the stretch. Zyra ran a good race and finished strongly. Duelist was well beaten just before entering the last quarter. Inspector Shea made up ground. Antonius showed well for a half mile. Pieder-ich was much the best, showed much speed and won as his rider pleased. Strangest was easily the best of the others. Lucien Appleby, under a determined stretch drive, finished with great resolution and wore down Corrigan in the closing strides. He swerved toward the outside rail in the last sixteenth, but in the last fifty yards rallied and ran as true as steel. Corrigan appeared the winner an eighth from home, but hung and swerved slightly when Lucien Appleby began to close on him. Bragg faltered whon turning for home, but rallied pomewhat in the last eighth. Autumn Leaves ran to her best form, but tired rapidly in the last three-sixteenths. Airlight finished strongly under a determined ride, getting up in time to nip Ahola on the post. Ahola tired in the last sixteenth and little Knapp was too weak to help him in theclosing Etrides or he would have finished second. St. Minor showed a little early speed.
