The latter and Obstinate Simon fought it out closely all through the stretch. Senator Beveridge hung on gamely and lasted just long enough. Obstinate Simon was pinched off at the start and was interfered with all the way, closed a big gap and would have been second in a few more strides. Lemuel did not show his usual speed.
