At post 2 minutes. Start good Won handily; second driving. Eophonei skillfully ridden, made good in improved fashion in the last half giving evidence of unexpected stamina. Inspector Stevens, incapably handled, lost considerable ground at intervals of bad jumping and went very wide on the last turn and was probably best. Judge Phillips ran a remarkably good race and forcing the pace throughout held on gamely. Sallust was a good horse poorly handled and is steadily improving. Jim Megibben, although a high class horse at steeplechasing, was ridden by an amateur, who was lost among a field of professionals. Scratched 346693Fulminate, 160 : 346692Rowdy, 148. Alsono, from a lucky start, drew to the front early and was well in hand from start to finish and much the best at the weights. Unmasked moved up fast on the stretch turn, put up a game race and is evidently in his best form. Clorita, in spite of a hard, early effort to beat the winner, held on well at the end. Ben Battle finished strongly and is more than useful. Extinguisher closed up ground from the half. Do Reszke broke slowly and made up ground. Sparklet, a fine looker and highly tried, ran a good race for her first time out. Harrow can probably do much better. Winner B. f, by Hastings Royal Gun trained by J. E. Madden. Went to post at 4 :10. At post 6 minutes. Start bad. Won easily : second driving. Gunfire received a lucky start, was carefully saved next to the rail in behind the pacemakers and made good with a. brilliant stretch run. Blues, also away running and luckily placed throughout, delayed his run, allowing the winner to steal a long lead, and came with a belated rush right at the end. Hyphen, away badly, was best, worked a rough journey in the first half to a prominent position and moved up too early on the far turn, but stood a long, hard drive with remarkable gameness. Whiskey King beat the gate and made thn most of his advantage. He goes farther with each race and should win soon. His Eminence also suffered at the start and put up a high class race. Advance Guard, nearly loft, closed a big gap. Francesco got away badly and failed to stay. Herberts chances were destroyed on the first turn. Baron Pepper was poorly handled. Articnlate went a good six furlongs. Scratched 34388 Bonnibert, 123; 34671 Monarka, 110; 34629 Arsenal, 102; 31507 Par Excellence, 95. Overweights The Rival, 2 pounds. Gunfire, show, 3 to 1. The Rival, which had been out for an airing earlier in the day, came back fresh and strong and, being benefitted by the early, fast pace, came along in the stretch and caught the best horse, in Maxnic, tiring and unpre pared. The latter had been excessively used to dispose of the lightly weighted quitter St. Finnan. Carbuncle carried his big weight well and finished strongly.
