SIDNEY C. LOVES STAKE. The feature event at Harlem yesterday was the Junior Stakes, a handicap for two-year-olds at six furlongs, with ,500 added. The race was taken by Sidney G. Love, but there will always remain a doubt in the minds of many as to whether the best horse won. Had The Picket not met with bad racing luck, he would certainly have either won or given the winner a spirited argument. After a delay of thirteen minutes at the post Dwyer finally got the field off to a fair start. Stem Winder at once shot to the front, opening a gap of two lengths on Gregor K., with Bad News third. Little change occurred in the position of the first three until well into the stretch, where Bad News fell away beaten and Sidney C. Love moved up. Passing the last eighth post Stem Winder began to falter and waB easily passed by Sidney C. Love, which won handily by a length from Gregor K which beat The Picket a head for second place, with Stem Winder lapped on. The Picket ran an impressive race. All entangled at the start, he was apparently hopelessly beaten off in the first quarter, but after that began to move up fast and closed up much ground in the last quarter. He was pocketed several times nest to the inside rail, but would not be denied and finished with much resolution. Gregor K. stood a long stretch drive with great courage. Stem Winder was well spent in the last seventy-five yards. McGees race was a sparkler. He was many lengths back of the field while going down the backstretch, but closed up ground fast in the run home and finished strongly. Aylmer Bruce showed early speed. The stake was worth ,690 to the winner. Corrigan, which is at his.best just now, won the fourth race, a handicap at one and one-eighth miles, by a close margin in a stirring finish with Hermen-cia and Nitrate. He displayed keen speed throughout, but had to be driven to the limit to stall off Hermencias bid in the last eighth, winning by a neck, with Hermencia a neck before Nitrate. Hermencia tired slightly in the closing striaes. Nitrate finished strongly next to the inside rail. Dr. Stephens ceased to be a serious contender by iho time the head of the stretch had been reached. Money Muss finally sustained his speed for six furlongs, winning the second race, a dash at that distance, somewhat handily from LEtrenne by a neck, which beat Lass of Langden three for second place. Money Muss led all the way and, although he ran wide at tho head of the stretch, would not be denied. LEtrenne finished strongly, but was not quite good enough. Lass of Langden, badly outrun in the first half, moved up fast down the last quarter and finished stoutly next to the inside rail. Carl Kahler ran a dull race, tiring fast in the stretch run. Emma R. pulled up very lame. The days opener, a dash of five furlongs for two-jear-olds, went to Vestry by a head from Naulahka, which beat Maxette four lengths for second place. Vestry showed much speed and led all the way, but was lucky to win as Mathews on Naulahka lost control of his whip in the closing strides and was unable to give his mount a vigorous ride. Siege made up much ground in the last quarter and would have been third in another stride or two. The result of the fifth race, a daBh of one mile, was a great surprise to the spectators, the winner turning up in Barca, which appeared to be hopelessly beaten off while going down the backstretch. off last and badly outrun To a poor start he was down the backstretch, but in the last half made up ffround fast and finished with a splendid burst of speed. He won by one and a half lengths from StJ Minor, which beat Golden Glitter one for second place. Evening Star led for six and a half furlongs, but tired fast when the pinch came. The last race went to Ultruda, which led all the way and won easily by one length from J. V. Kirby, which beat Lingo five for second place. The greatest crowd of the week was present despite the cool, unpleasant day. The track was in good condition and will be very fast today in case no rain falls.
