Daly was at home in the going, improved his position steadily from a poor start, finishi g very strongly. Bluff, nearly left., made up twenty lengths on the leaders and was easily sec nd best. G Whittier failed to stay after following the winners pace closely to th stretch Tribes Hill, handicapped by the going and outrun to the stretch, came with a rush at the end. St. Finnan and Belle ef Lexington both tired in the last quarter. Monte Carlo ran poorly for him. Golden Maxim was lucky and his sup -rior early speed enabled him to hold a good position. He saved ground on the turn and stole a long and winning lead in the stretch and just lasted long enough to beat Africander. The latter worked a rough journey through, finishd like a whirlwind and was best. Merry Acrobat, particularly favored by the going, held on well and outstayed Astarita and Wild Thyme. Both of these were prominent to the stretch and tired badly in the last furlong. Oletiant closed a big gap and gave a glimpse of her best form. Fire Eater was practically left. He appeared the winner in the stretch. Past closed a tremendous gap from a poor start and was probably best. Moor broke slowly and was crowded, back, woik-d a rough journey and ran a comparatively poor race under a bad-looking ride. Ascension, away in front and lucky, was excessively used early and, being evidently short, failed to stay. Black Dick had no chance at the start.
