Rose Tree waa not called on until just before entering the stretch, where she moved up fast on Jiminez and easily outrun him in the lost quarter. She was given an easy ride all through the last quarter, as elemental conditions mado it almost impossible to break a record. Linguist was at hi beet, displayed keen speed throughout and won as his rider pleased. Topsoil was taken back in the first half, but moved no fast in the last quarter and fln- ished strongly. Flocarline also finished stoutly and ran the best race of her career. Marchs race was a disappointment, and he failed dismally when called upon by Winlifield in the Inst eighth. Wat- kins Overton was frequently pocketed, bnt failed to improve his position when called on in the last quarter.
