Mclnerney took Maud Gonne back in the first half and never made a move until nearing the turn for home, then came wide into the stretch, finished very strongly and was going away at the end. Petit Bleu was used up in chasing Springwells and tired when the pinch came. Springwells, had no mishaps, got the best of the start and was off running, but tired. Lovable ran her race. Ayrshire Lad saved ground at the home turn, where he came through next to the inside rail. He tired in the last eighth and was driving to the limit to stall off Jerry. The latter came strongly after coming around the leaders when swinging into the homestretch. Night Owl came with a rush on the inside in the last sixteenth and got up in the last stride. Galahad was last of the lot and at this point the others pulled up when opposite the grandstand and had to go back to the head of the homestretch. Tip Gallant would have won easily but for going out of the course.
