GOSSIP OF THE TURF. The running meeting which will be conducted in conjunction with the Atlanta, Ga fair opened yesterday. Some very good horses will be campaigned thereas the meeting has been approved by the western and eastern jockey clubs. Several Cincinnatians are interested in the meeting. T. OBrien, a well known man in turf circles, will have charge of the betting ring. Tho following telegram, which was received by Secretary Welden, of the Atlanta meeting, assures horsemen that the project is not meeting with the objection of the governing turf bodies: "Chicago, October 6, 1902. "Frank Welden, Secretary, Atlanta, Ga. : "Heretofore the Western Jockey Club has not interfered with meetings of six days held by regu-larlyllrecognized fair associations, but will not sanction extended race meetings. If your case, owing to conditions, will permit race meeting of twelve racing days. "Geobge H. Kuhl, Secretary." Wyndham Walden is the Nestor of living American trainers. For over forty years he has been handling race horses, and his connection with racing marks a veritable history of the American turf for that period. He goes to Henry T. Oxnard, the beet refiner of California, and will take charge of his Albemarle stable of horses, comprising Lux Casta, Price, Wealth, Invincible and others. Henry Oxnard will! strengthen his stable next year, and Trainer Walden will have some good material to work on. The connection should be mutually advantageous to both parties, and all wish them well. The older trainers that we have left with us can teach some of the younger a thing and that is patience, especially with two-year-olds. Rome Reepess, of Covington, Ky., was taken suddenly ill on the track at Morris Park Tuesday and was removed to his temporary home near the track inWestchester. Respess has some of the most promising western horses at the course, including Colonnade, Dick Welles and others. E. Corrigan has bought of O. H. Chenault, of Spendthrift Stud,Jfor ,560, the following three yearling thoroughbred colts: Bay colt, by Her-menca Biddie, by Wanderer; bay colt, by St. George Nan, by The 111 Used; bay colt, by Her-mence Tiddledewinks, by Jils Johnson.
