THIS It BED DISPERJAIj SALE. The sale of Charles Reeds Fairview Stud at Sheepshead Bay Monday netted 1,650 for 105 head, including the noted stallions Knight of the Thistle and St. Blaise. It was in 1891 that Mr. Reed paid 00,000 for St. Blaise at the Belmont sale and the next day refused 25,000 for the imported sire. Monday when St. Blaise was brought iato the ring and auctioneer Easton asked for bids Frank T. Clarke started the ball with ,003, Dr. Williams raised it to ,500 and Green B. Morris bid ,500. George Wheelock, the well-known bookmaker, got into the game with ,C00, and as Morris raised him 00 Wheelock went to ,C00, stopping at that figure. Morris then bid ,500 and St. Blaise went to J. B. Haggin, who was represented in the bidding by Morris. Knight of the Thistle, a coming sire, was the most in demand. Col. Jack Chinn made the first bid of ,0C0. Lucien Appleby, who brought the stallion to ths country, then bid 0,000. Milton Young of McGrathiana Stud raised the offer ,C00. Wheelock jumped the price to 5,0C0, whereupon R. H. McCarter Potter, owner of the Pequest Stud in Bussex county, N. J., bid 6,000. Wheelock wont to 7,C0O and retired and Potter bid 8,000 and got the stallion. Two former Brooklyn Handicap winners, Diablo and Exile, were among the stallions offered. The former went out of the ring without a bid, while tho latter brought only 00. Milton Young was a large purchaser of brood mares. August Belmont and an agent of the Rancocas Stud, now owned by Mrs. Lillian Barnes Allien, were also among the purchasers.
