GOSSIP OF THE TURF. The Sire Bros, have decided to re-enter the turf and nave begun making purchases of valuable racing steeds and soon expect to have an extensive stable. They have just paid a high price for a yearling which they have named Mabelle Gilman. Her managers have also purchased from P. F. Dwyer the fast two-year-old Attorney, also the speedy Ancke, which they secured after much dickering from the Pierre Lorillard stables. August Belmont is now the owner of the famous thoroughbred stallion St. Blaise. He bought the horse of J. B. Haggin, or G. B. Morris, desiring to shelter in his old age the sire which made Nursery Stud famous. Mr. Belmonts father imported St. Blaise, and it was while in the stud at Nursery that he sired many of his great race horses. Mr. Haggin paid ,500 for him at the dispersal sale of the Fairview Stud. Just what Mr. Belmont paid for the horse that once brought 00,000 is not known, but it ie said to have been an advance on the price paid by Mr. Haggin.
