Lux Casta was lucky and had a clear course, was given a strong finish and outstayed St. Daniel after a hard last furlong drive. The latter ran a fine race, showed plenty of speed and stamina and should win at once. Schoharie, suddenly improved, appeared like the winner when a furlong out, but tired right at the end. Judith Campbell ran dully throughout, and, bearing into the rail, crowded Clorita out after keeping her in a bad pocket in the last quarter, practically destroying her chances. The others wore outclassed. Scratched 35642Chuctanunda, 139; 35717 Belle of Lexington, 102; 35691 Numeral, 93; 35717 Ondur-dis, 93. Overweights St. Daniel, 1 pound; 8nark, 1; Knight of Harlem, 2. Merito received a patient, waiting ride, and, moving up with a rush in the last furlong under a vigorous finish, outstayed Grand Opera. The latter forced the pace from the start and fought it out through the last quarter with remarkable gameness and was probably best. Potente waited in behind they pacemakers and challenged Grand Opera strongly, but was unable to pass him after an entire stretch drive. He may have been short and is in great form. Anak ran in improved form. G. Whittier tired after following Grand Opera closely for seven furlongs, was a good horse today and can win when properly placed. Conundrum ran a bad race for him. Kilogram also ran poorly. Scratched 35694 De Beszke. 108; 35718 Bossignol, 107; 35552 Stevedore, 103; 355972Keynote. 103- 35594 Numeral, 101. Merito, show, 3 to 5. Grand Opera, show, 2 to 5. Redpath ran a remarkable race Nearly left, he trailed to the half then moved up with a sensational rush and passed Sergrant in the last few strides, winning going away. Sergeant held a prominent position throughout, drew cleHr in the last sixteenth and appeared like the winner, but was unprepared for the winners bid at the end, yet ran a very game race. Unmasked, in rare form, sustained his brilliant speed gamely, but was unable to concede the weight asked. Six Shooter closed a big gap and put up a whirlwind finish. Dublin, weakly ridden at the end, should have been third. Daly ran a good race. Belle of Lexington suddenly found her early speed but tired. Belle of Troy is uncertain. Wealth was overweighted. Whiskey KiDg has developed into a rank quitter. Scratched 35740 Clorita, 115; 35740Lnx Casta, 112; 35740 Judith Campbell, 109. Overweights Redpath, 1 pound; Emshee, 2; Sergeant, 1. Lord Badge forced the pace from the start and came away in the last quarter like a good one. Arden showed "improved form and finished strongly and was lucky, but poorly ridden. Amur, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap and was probably best. Boaster failed to stay. Rossfame is improving. The Talisman suffered from serious interference at the half. Herbert took advantage of the slow early pace and stole a long and winning lead in the first half and appeared a sure winner throughout, but was driviug hard at the end to beat Hunter Raine. The latter was always well p and saved ground on the stretch turn closing up very strongly at the end and is a steadily improving colt. Andy Williams beat the gate, but failed to take advantage of it and only cantered first part of the race, then was unable to sprint with first two inthe last quarter. Hermencia also Buffered from the slow pace and trailed to the stretch when he finished like a whirlwind.
