LOCAL TUKF GOSSIP. McChesney, which starts in the Liberty Handicap today, will attempt the remarkable task of carrying 130 pounds and defeat the best handicap horses in training in the west. Should he be successful in carrying the heavy burden past the judges stand in the van of his field his many admirers can well proclaim him the horse of the year east or west, age or sex. Green B. Morris will ship all his horses now at the local track to California next Sunday. Jockey Donnelly, who recently signed to ride for Mr. Morris, will leave next Sunday for Latonia, where he will ride for a week or ten days, then journey to the coast and rejoin his new employer. Durnell and Herz landed three purses yesterday with My Surprise, St. Cnthbort and Caliban. All the horses were ridden by Buchanan. St. Cuthbert reduced the Worth six furlong record two-fifths of a second and placed the mark at 1 :124, th is is within one-fifth of a second of tho American record for six furlongs on a circular track. The record being held jointly by Bummer and Lux Casta. The former carrying only 80 pounds was the first to establish the record at Einloch Park, St. Louis, Oct. 17, 19C0. Lux Casta with 111 pounds up ran the six furlongs in 1 :12 at Brighton Beach, July 23, 1902.. Bad News, which won the opening race yesterday, thereby graduating from the maiden class, was at one time considered by Woodford and Buck-ner, his owners, the superior of Dick Welles, having beat the latter in his trials over the Harlem track. Le Boy Bros, and A. B. Willis arrived yesterday with their horses from the Canadian circuit. Caliban, by his victory in the fifth race yesterday, incurred a five-pound penalty in the Liberty Handicap, to be decided today. Many stables left Worth yesterday for Latonia, which meeting begins today, and will continue for twenty-five days.
