The Coney Island Jockey Club announces that the following events will close on Monday, November 17: For the June meeting, 1903 The Foam Stakes for two-year-olds, ,500 added; the Surf Stakes for two-year-olds, ,500 added. For the June meeting, 1904 The Tidal Stakes for three-year-olds, weight for age, guaranteed value 0,000; the Mermaid Stakes for three-year-old fillies, ,500 added j the Lawrence Realization for three-year-olds, 0,000 added. For the Autumn meeting, 1904 The Great Filly Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, ,000 added; the Century Stakes for three-year-olds and upward, guaranteed value 0,000. For the Autumn meeting, 1904, and after The Annual Champion Stakes for threo-year-olds and upward, guaranteed value 5,000. For the June meeting, 1905 The Lawrence Realization. "Pittsburg Phil" George E. Smith has engaged "Phil" McGovern, brother of "Terrible Terry," to ride and exercise his horses for next year. The young plunger believes that "Phil" will ultimately become proficient as a jockey if ho only receives proper tuition. He has placed the boy in the care of "Bill" Smith, his brother, and told the brother to give him every chance to learn. "Phil" McGovern has not been a startling success as a jockey. While he has the build and the muscle, experts who, on account of his relationship, have studied him, say his hands are not fine Eenough to make a crack jockey. Secretary Crickmore issued a circular to owners and trainers recently to the effect that in future men and boys bringing horses to the paddock must be neatly dressed, wearing either coats or sweaters and having their badges in plain sight. After this persons not having badges will be excluded from the paddock at the Westchester track. Newton Bennington has a yearling colt over on his New Jersey farm who is by Albert Bonnie Ola, hence a full brother to Herbert and Bonnibert. Bennington has named the colt Bath Beach and says that he believes he has a .world beater in him. The youngster has shown both speed and stamina in his trials.
