Bucolic, lucky and skillfully handled, saved ground on the stretch turn, came fast through the stretch and finished strongly. Someno3 forced the pace to the stretch, where he turned wide, losing several lengths, and finished with a rush and was clearly best. Orsina tired right at the end after showing the way up to a hundred yards of the finish and will improve. Poacher was outrun, but ran gamely and was closing up at the end. Ripper made up ground after going the first half. No Friend had no chance with his start and can do better. Overweights Orsina, 1 pound. Bucolic, show, 1 to 3. Somenos, show, 4 to 1. Winner B. g, by Cicero Leap Year trained by W. L. Appleby. Went to post at 2 :58. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won in a canter; second easily. Grafter indulged Gawaine with the lead to the last furlong, where he forged to the front cantering and outclassed the neld. Gawaine secured a lucky start, led at a fast pace, held on unexpectedly well and was easily second bost. Galanthus showed a good turn of speed, but failed to stay and is strictly a mudlark. Nannie Nolan, away poorly and taken a wide first turn, ran well. Ting a Ling was closing up in the stretch. Imperious sulked after going the first half and is good only in mud. Grafter, show out. Kenil-worth is in brilliantjform and ran about the best race of his career. With a lucky start and vigorous ride he followed the pacemaker closely and finally wore him down after a long drive through the last quarter. Sad Sam was best at the weights, but was badly messed about on the stretch turn, losing ground and was weakly ridden at the finish where he came again very strongly. Byron Rose, always well up, held on well in the final drive and ran up to his best form. Lord Badge lost ground at the start and from a slow start closed a big gap and was closing up on the leaders like a cyclone and would have won in another fifty yards. Princess Titania is very good, but had no chance with an incompetent jockey. Overweights Lord Badge, 1 pound. Kenilworth, show, 1 to 2. Sad Sam, show, 1 to 2. Byron Rose, show, 3 to 1. Azarine was lucky, had clear sailing, finished with a rush and caught Bodner tiring in the final sixteenth. The latter had been excessively urged in the first half. Quiz, away flatfooted and hopelessly pocketed in the first half, closed up with a rush after overcoming repeated interference and was best, is one of the most improved horses in training and is a wonder in mud. Searchlight went well, but was outclassed. Oscar Tolle quit after showing the way to the stretch. Scratched 36392 Pat Morrissey, 109; 36406 Our Pride, 104. Horton beat the gate, but was outrun to the stretch, where, after a rough journey, he came through next to the rail and canght Rollick napping at the end. The latter had forced the pace throughout and was drawing clear and -apparently winning in the last furlong. He was best and is in great form. Artilla was given a lucky start and had clear sailing, but made wide turns, then closed up at the end with a tremendous rush and ran to her beat form. Dunblane failed to stay after following the pace closely for seven furlongs. Antolee got away badly, ran wide on the first turn, raced into prominence in the first half and, being carried wide on the stretch turn, tired badly in the final drive. Hesper and Forte are both improving. Digby Bell went a good five furlongs. Overweights Horton, 1 pound. Hortop, show. 2 to 5. Rollick, show, 2 to 5. Artilla, show, 2 to 1. Antolee, show, 2 to 5.
