ME M PH TS STAKE ENTRIES. The officials of the Memphis Jockey Club have good reason to be well satisfied with the outlook for their meeting of 1903. Their list of stakes which closed January 3 attracted an entry list that embraces most of the good horses of the west, a gratifying testimonial to the great popularity of this model racing organization. Especially noticeable is the big increase over last year of nominations to the Montgomery Handicap. The western handicap division of this year promises to be much superior to that of last year numerically and in respect to quality, the Montgomery Handicap affording the first illustration of this statement. Secretary Macfarlan has furnished the press with the following statement of entries received: Gaston Hotel Stakes, for two-year-old colts and geldings, 66. Ardolle Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, 57. Memphis Stakes, for two-year-olds, 83. Hotel Gayosb Stakes, for three-year-olds, 57-. Montgomery Handicap, 103. Peabodj Handicap, 86. Tennessee Brewing Company Stakes, 107. Cotton Steeplechase Stakes, 52.- --- Tennessee Derby of 1904, 105. Tennessee Oaks of 1904, 70. , The entries for all-aged horses have greatly increased, while the juvenile events havo slightly fallen off. The Montgomery Handicap will be run on the opening day of the meeting.
