Orpheum broke in the middle of the field, but Robertson kept him on the outside in the good going all the way. He finished fast and outgamed Barkelmore when it came to a hard drive. The latter ran in much improved form. Jove was off running and showed a lot of speed,-but Gannon had him under-restraint till of the-first-half. "Ho wonld-probbly -have won with a better ride. Ornature made up a lot of ground in the first half and then tired. Doc Wood broke his leg in pulling up and had to be destroyed. Double O. showed speed, but tired in the stretch. The same applies to Kiwasa. War Cry got off badly and made up much ground. Watkins Overton ran poorly. Orpheum, show, 4 to 1. Barkelmore, show, 4 to 1. Jove, show, evens. War Cry, show, 1 to 2. Watkins Overton, show, 7 to 5. Hedge made all his own pace and had enough left to stall off a challenge from Stratton in the stretch run. The latter was under restraint for the first half, but tired when called on for a final effort. Nettie Regent saved ground at all the turns, but tired in the last hundred yards and probably needed this race. Ernest Parham ran well and will probably be hard to beat from now on. Sweet Alice was on the outside all the way, came fast at the turn into the homestretch and was hard ridden all of the last furlong to stall off Birch Broom. The latter came wide at the turn into the homestretch, but finished with a rush and was wearing the winner down and would have beaten her in a few more strides. Musical Slipper ran her best race. The latter was off very badly and much used in racing Miss Hume in the first half and tired when it came to the final drive. The Caxton closed a big gap and outgamed The Stewardess at the end. The latter showed speed and saved ground at the turn into the homestretch. Miss Hume tired badlv in the stretch run. Scratched 37560 Kaloma. 106; 3754211516 102. Burgoyne, show, 3 to 5.
