GOSSIP OF THE TURF. The Elector, by Hanover Lady Abbess, by Retreat, owned by the Louisville turfman and breeder, J. B. Lowman, has been retired to the stud at the Spring Valley Stock Farm of his owner in Jefferson County, Kentucky. The Elector won twenty-six races and defeated such cracks as the Derby winners Lieutenant Gibson and Robert Waddell, and was the first horse to run a mile better than 1 :40 oyer tha St. Louis Fair Grounds track. When Viscount Kitchener made his processional entry into Delhi, the charger he rode was the American-bred gelding Democrat II., bred by the late Pierre Lorillard and winner of the Middle Park Plato in the famous American sportsmans colors. Richard Marsh, the trainer of King Ed-wards horses, secured him from Lorillard and in turn presented him to Lord Kitchener.
