The latter finished gamely fought it out with Emir through the last sixteenth and was wearing her down at the end and would have won in two more strides. Annie Lauretta was used up in chasing Choice for the first half and was doing her best at the end to stall off Velasquez. Choice quit badly Emir, show, out. Banana Cream, show, out. Banter saved ground all the way, came through next to the rail at the turn into the homestretch, caught Pericles at the furlong post and outgamed him in a hot drive. Pericles showed the most early speed, but was used up racing Jake Greenberg to defeat in the first half and tired when called on. Oronte wore Jake Greenberg down in the stretch run. Governor Boyd raced Memorist into submission in the first mile and had enough left at the finish to stall off a challenge from King Galong and Allegiance. King Galong was hard ridden all the way, was carried wide at the turn into the homestretch and tired when it came to a drive.
