Sovereign was lucky at the start, forced the pace throughout and stood a long stretch drive gamely under Odoms vigorous finish, just getting home in time. Royal Summons followed the winners pace closely and after making a wide stretch turn was wearing him down at the end. Luke Ward came out of close quarters in the last furlong with a rush. He appeared high in flesh and not keyed up, but ran a fine race. Castalian was the chief contender for five furlongs, tiring in the last fifty yards. Extinguisher closed a big gap from a slow beginning. St. Daniel was well in hand at the end after a strong bid a furlong out. Scratched— 387562Armeath, 130. Corrected weights — Extinguisher, 126. Nameoki ran with the assistant starters whip entangled in his tail and under such adverse conditions displayed high class form and was finishing fast. Won driving; second the same. Broomstick, evidently a high-class and very game colt, had a prominent rail position throughout, came out of close quarters in the last sixteenth with a tremendous rush and caught Shaw on Precious Stone napping. The latter made the running up to the last stride and was tiring, rapidly in the last hundred yards, but ran an unexpectedly true and game race. Palmbearer, on the outside, was going the fastest at the end, but Gannons effort was lamentably weak. Leonidas fell away abruptly after being apparently winning when more than a furlong out and ran as if short. He has been phenomenally tried and may reverse this running. Tom Sullivan was swerving when going down the hill and was easing up at the end. Scratched— Gallant, 122. Broomstick, show, 2 to 1. Precious Stone, show, 1 to 5. Won driving; second the same Gunfire was lucky and superbly ridden, fell in behind the pacemaker to the stretch turn where she suddenly forged into the lead next to the rail, saving ground, and under Burns vigorous ride came away fast right at the end after a terrific stretch struggle. Old England made the running for six furlongs, losing his advantage in a wide stretch turn, but came again and fought out the issue with the winner on nearly even terms for another furlong tiring suddenly in the last fifty yards. Lux Casta, after getting away badly, displayed amazing speed in running into prominence at the end of six furlongs -and ran a remarkable race Articulate closed an immense gap from a bad start, may have been the best today Yellow Tail held a good position throughout and pulled up very lame after the race. Waswift was running fast at the end. Royal went a good six furlongs. Dr. Saylor made un trround verv fast from the far turn home. Betsy Ross and The Duffer straggled in a long distance apart, after both had retired beaten early in the race Tchula, which was choked and hauled about in deplorable style for nearly two miles was winning by herself when she fell over next to the last jump a quarter of a mile from the finish and was evidently much the best.
