LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. ... C. E. Mahone begged permission from the judges yesterday to withdraw his entry Banter from the fourth race, giving as a reason that Banter can not run to his best form on a muddy track. The judges excused the horse from starting, but the track could not have been very muddy, as the time of the race shows. The last mile of yesterdays race, from stand to stand, was negotiated in 1:40 fiat Ex-jockey W. Martin arrived at Worth yesterday from Saratoga, N. Y., where he has been since his departure from New Orleans. His horses, including Old Hutch, which defeated Telamon, causing jockey Buchanans suspension at the time, are at the Worth track, and being prepared for a campaign this summer on the local tracks. W. Burke, the owner of Goldaga, claimed the mare Crest, belonging to Ezell and Lazarus, out of the second race for the sum of 00. W. Phillips, acting for his employer F. Cook, has sold to W. Walker the horse Om-durman for the reported price of 00. T. J. McHale scored his first win in nearly two years when I. Samelson led his field home in the fifth race yesterday.
