He flinched when the barrier went up and appeared to have little chance by the time he had gotten into his full stride, but made up ground fast in the last quarter and was going away at the end. Tom Rees closed up fast in the last eighth, nipping Soldier of Fortune at the end for second place. The latter showed speed, but tired fast when called on for a final effort. Jim Ferrin was well beaten when a sixteenth from home. Capitol showed speed, but tired fast when the pinch came. Scratched — Requinis, 112; Golden Boy, 112.
