Tiomaine had all the racing luck, came fast in the stretch, won going away and was well handled by Bookor. Dorice was probably the best. She got away badly and had rough sailing and ran wide when swinging into the stretch carrying Sextette out with her, but was going fast at the end. Sextette showed speed, but tired in the stretch. Durbar ran an excellent race and will bear watching. Bessie B. han her race. Overweights — Dorice, 2 pounds. Tiomaine, show, 3 to 1. Dorice, show, 1 to 2. Sextette, show, evens. Bill Knight showed much improvement under a good ride, was very speedy and had things his own way after racing Matt Wadleigh into subjection. Matt Wadleigh received a vigorous ride and had no mishaps. Rowland M. found the early pace too fast, but hung on gamely. Don OHigh and Bandillo ran poorly. Overweights — The Farrier, 3 pounds. Went to post at 3:34. At post 17 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. W. B. Gates was probably best as the race was run. Beana and Edgardo were used up in a false break in which both ran a quarter at full speed, while W. B. Gates was stopped after running an eighth. His improvement was sudden and his race a good one throughout. Beana was under a choking pull in the first part of the race and Dean made his run with her too late, barely failing to get up. Cursus caught Ben Chance tiring and outgamed him for third money. Edgardo can do better. W. B. Gates, show, 3 to 2. Beana, show, 6 to 5. Cursus, show, 8 to 5. Won handily; second easily. Nickey D. showed the most speed throughout and ran like a wild horse today. He was still a trifle short, however, and nearly lost the race by swerving into Father Wentker and Duela in the stretch. Duela ran an excellent race and Waldo claimed a fpul on her behalf, but it was not allowed. Pettijohn did his best, but was outrun all the way. Father Wentker showed early speed, but could not concede the weight and tired. Overweights — Pettijohn, 3 pounds. No show betting. ._. FIFTH RACE— 5 1"2 Furlongs. Purse 00. 3-year-olds. It started to drizzle before they went to the post in this race and the track just suited him. His speed was the most dazzling displayed by any sprinter on the local tracks this season. Avoid did her best and finished going fast and gamely. Hannah Lady displayed surprising speed and bears watching from now on. J. Sidney Walker ran a poor race and seems to have lost his good form of last year. Scratched— 385593Birch Broom, 107; 3S119 Apple Sweet, 107; 38769Bear Creek. 106; 38S19=Vestry, 104.
